Security / Non-Militarization
In a major concession to Israel, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has publicly agreed to a non-militarized Palestinian state. The new state could maintain internal security through a police force trained and equipped by the U.S., without possessing an army, navy or air force that could pose a potential threat to Israel.
Abbas has also agreed to restrictions on military alliances with countries or groups hostile to Israel, and on allowing outside armed forces to secure a foothold in a future Palestinian state.
